About the Teacher - Laura Twitchell
Hi, I’m Laura — a certified math teacher and a homeschooling mom of two. I’ve been working with students for over 15 years, and I love helping kids (and their parents!) feel more confident in both math and day-to-day learning.
Professional Background
B.S. in Mathematics Education (Northwest Missouri State University, 2007–2011)
Certified to teach middle & high school math since 2011
15+ years tutoring K–12, college-level, and adult learners
Focused on identifying learning gaps, supporting foundational growth, and tailoring instruction for each student

Whether your child is gifted, struggling, or somewhere in between — I adapt my approach to meet them where they are.
Homeschool Perspective
As a homeschooling mom myself, I understand what it’s like to juggle teaching, parenting, and everything in between. That’s why I offer support not just for academics, but for daily rhythm, burnout, and building sustainable routines.
Teaching Style & Philosophy
I believe math should be a collaborative experience — not a lecture or a worksheet marathon. My teaching is grounded in conversation, curiosity, and connection. Students learn best when they have the space to try things, to think aloud, and build their reasoning in real-time — with someone beside them ready to offer the next just-right prompt or guiding question.
I support students in building confidence, not just in getting the correct answers; but in understanding why math works and learning how to approach new problems with clarity and strategy. Whether a student is stuck or sprinting ahead, I meet them with the proper support and challenge to keep them growing.
Above all, I want math to feel like a space where students are safe to be uncertain, encouraged to explore, and proud of the breakthroughs they earn.
